Great day with Fred Gunton of “A Nose for Wine” tours. He picked us up in Portland and we visited three wineries in the Willamette Valley – Elk Cove, Fairsing and NativeFlora. Great wine including Pinot Noirs that the Valley is best known for – generous tastings! At least six at each winery and we had to call it a day at three or we would have passed out. We loved the owners at each winery – including at Fairsing where the owners were reformed Dallasites and also worked previously for the predecessor company of Oncor – very small world! And at Native Flora a Yalie who despite all the odds had started his vineyards on the north slope of a mountain and built an 8,000 square foot winery under his 8,000 squarre foot house! He was very interesting, was at Saybrook in ’81, but upset at Yale (of course!) because his first son had not been accepted. We ended the day with at least three cases of wine!
